The National Archives of Namibia ( English National Archives of Namibia ; NAN), the Namibian National Archives , based in Windhoek . It was founded in 1939 under the name South West Africa Archives Depot and was then based in the Ink Palace .

The NAN is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and Education and functions under the umbrella of the Namibia Library & Archives Service , as does the National Library of Namibia .

The National Archives have a holdings of 5000 running meters of documents with a total of 525,000 individual entries in the database, including 5600 cards, 61,000 photographs, 2000 audio cassettes, 450 films and a comprehensive collection of local newspapers from 1897 to 1962. The National Archives houses the journals of the Hendrik Witbooi , who represent a Namibian world document heritage . The archivist Werner Hillebrecht is significantly involved in the activities of the NAN .
