Hans-Joachim Lauth (* 1957 in Mannheim ) is a German political scientist .

Life

Lauth studied political science, Catholic theology and education in Mainz and Bremen . He obtained the 1st state examination in political science and Catholic theology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . He received his doctorate in 1991 for Dr. phil. with a thesis on the political system of Mexico at the University of Mainz and habilitated there in 2002 with a thesis on democracy and the measurement of democracy .

From 1991 to 1996 he was a research assistant in the fields of international politics, developing country research and comparative government studies at the University of Mainz. From 1996 to 2002 he was a research assistant (C1) in the area of ​​analysis and comparison of political systems. From 2002 to 2004 he was a three-semester substitute for a professorship at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Koblenz-Landau , Campus Landau in der Pfalz , and from 2004 to 2005 he was a three-semester substitute for a professorship at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Heidelberg . From 2005 to 2008 he taught as a professor at the Institute for Political Science at the FernUniversität in Hagen and was spokesman for the DVPW working group on intercultural comparison of democracy . Since 2008 he has held the chair for comparative political science and systems theory at the Institute for Political Science and Sociology (IPS) at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . From 2009 to 2011 he was the executive director of the Institute for Political Science and Sociology in Würzburg and from 2010 to 2013 he was a member of the Faculty Council of the Philosophical Faculty II and dean of the Philosophical Faculty II at the University of Würzburg. Since 2010 he has been Deputy Director of the Graduate School Law, Economics & Society (GSLES). Since 2013 he has been a member and deputy chairman of the Senate of the University of Würzburg. Since 2015 he has been chairman of the Senate of the University of Würzburg.
