Werner Hillebrecht

Werner Hillebrecht (* 1949 in Kreiensen ) is from Germany originating archivist and librarian in Namibia .

biography

Werner Hillebrecht initially studied chemistry from 1967 to 1970 at the University of Göttingen. From 1975 to 1978 he trained as a nurse at the nursing school of the University of Göttingen .

From 1978 he began as a historical self-taught and initially self-financed with the creation of a comprehensive bibliography of literature on the former colony of German South West Africa , which at the time was still administered by South Africa as South West Africa . From 1985 he continued this work as part of a job at the University of Bremen , where he was in charge of the digitization of a bibliography of Namibia ( Namibia Literature Database NAMLIT of the Namibia Bibliographical Database Project ). After the end of the Namibian liberation struggle , Hillebrecht emigrated there in 1992 and worked at the National Archives of Namibia in Windhoek from April 1992 to January 1995 , and from February 1995 to March 2002 at the National Library of Namibia . In 2002 he moved back to the National Archives, where he was entrusted as a senior archivist with setting up an archive on “Namibia's colonial resistance”. In 2003 Hillebrecht was offered the management of the archive, a position that had remained vacant since Brigitte Lau's accidental death in 1996. Hillebrecht accepted and headed the National Archives until he retired in 2013. Other data is recorded by the reference management program Mendeley , according to which Hillebrecht took over the management of the National Archives in 2004 and retired in 2015.
