The National Library of Namibia ( English National Library of Namibia , NLN), the Namibian National Library , based in Windhoek . It is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and Education and functions under the umbrella of the Namibia Library & Archives Service , as does the National Archives of Namibia .

history

The NLN goes back to the library of the Imperial Gouvernement during the time of the German Schutztruppe around 1900. In 1926 this was expanded as the Library of the Legislative Assembly in the Ink Palace with books from the German colonial era. In 1950 the library was given the right to keep the national bibliography before it was closed for a short time in 1980. Four years later the library was reopened in the building of the former Schutztupplers Ludwig von Estorff . At that time it was known almost exclusively under the name Erstoff Reference Library (Estorff Reference Library ).

In 1990 the library was handed over to the state with the intention of developing it into a complete national library. In 2000 the library moved into its own building.
