The National Library of Tunisia , French Bibliothèque nationale de Tunisie (BNT) , Arabic المكتبة الوطنية التونسية, is a public institution in Tunis that is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and the Protection of Monuments ( Ministère de la culture et de la sauvegarde du patrimoine ).
history
The history of this institution begins in 1885 with the establishment of the Bibliothèque nationale de Tunisie by a decree of March 8th. In 1910, parts of the rapidly growing library holdings had to be relocated to former barracks buildings (d'Al-Attarine). Nevertheless, the spatial situation increasingly no longer met modern requirements. Therefore, a new functional building was designed. In 1985, on behalf of the Tunisian government, UNESCO experts examined the library's situation and its options for preservation and preservation. The focus was on old stocks and their storage situation.
With the statute of March 1, 1994, the national library received a modern version of its national mandate and a modified organizational structure. The modern library building was opened on December 1, 2005 at Boulevard 9 avril 1938 .
From 1965 it was called Bibliothèque Nationale (Dâr Al-Kutub Al-Wataniya).
