On December 22, 1989 was Bucharest in temporal association with the Romanian Revolution of Ion Iliescu in a direct television transmission of the Council of the National Salvation Front, Romanian Consiliul Frontului Salvării national ( CFSN announced) at 14 o'clock as the body which from now Romania exercise political power.

Members later had to defend themselves against allegations that they themselves had formed a conspiracy before December 21st.

In December 1989 the Romanian Communist Party disbanded and some of the former Communist Party members founded the Frontul Salvării Naționale (FSN, National Salvation Front ) under the leadership of Iliescu and took power in the country. The FSN provided the first president Iliescu (1989–1996) and two prime ministers, Petre Roman (1990–1991) and Theodor Stolojan (1991–1992). In April 1992 there were clashes within the FSN. As a result, a group split off under Iliescu and founded the Frontul Democrat al Salvării Naționale (FDSN, Democratic Front for National Salvation) . She won the parliamentary elections in 1992. Under the leadership of Petre Roman, the Partidul Democrat-Frontul Salvării Naționale (PD-FSN) was formed from some other members of the FSN , which in 2008 became the Partidul Democrat-Liberal (PD-L, Democratic-Liberal Party ) has risen.
