Ștefan Guşă

Ștefan Guşă (born April 17, 1940 in Spătaru , Costeşti , Buzău district ; † March 28, 1994 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian major general and politician of the Communist Party of Romania PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who was head of the Romanian Communist Party from 1986 to 1989 General Staff of the Armed Forces of Romania ( Armata Română ) and as such also Secretary of the Defense Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania . After the fall of Nicolae Ceaușescu in the course of the Romanian Revolution , he was a member of the Council of the Front for National Rescue CFSN (Consiliul Frontului Salvării Naționale) from December 22nd to 26th, 1989 .

Life

Guşă began after attending secondary school No. 2 and the " Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu " -Lyzeum in Buzău 1957 military training at the tank and motor vehicle school in Piteşti , which he completed in 1960. He was then taken over as a lieutenant (Locotenent) in the Romanian armed forces ( Armata Română ) on August 23, 1960 and was initially platoon leader in tank regiment No. 68 and then platoon commander and finally company commander between June 15, 1961 and September 6, 1966 at the tank and motor vehicle school in Pitesti. During this time he became a member of the Romanian Communist Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) in 1962 and on December 30, 1963 to first lieutenant (Locotenent-major) and on December 30, 1965 to captain (Căpitan) . He graduated from 1966 to 1972 with a degree in the armored engineering section of the Military Technical Faculty of the General Military Academy (Academia Militară Generală) and was promoted to Major (Maior) on December 30, 1971 . After completing his studies, he was from March 30th to October 7th 1972 trainer and workshop manager of the chair for armored technology of the General Military Academy and then from October 7th 1972 to August 13th 1976 commander of the 6th tank regiment " Ioan Buteanu " . During this time he was promoted to lieutenant colonel (Locotenent-colonel) on August 23, 1974, and completed a post-academic course in weapons systems from December 1, 1975 to May 31, 1976.

Then Guşă acted from December 13, 1976 to 1981 as chief of staff of Panzer Division 6 "Horia, Cloşca şi Crişa" and was in this time between August 1 and November 30, 1978 graduate of a preparatory course for organization and mobilization. He was also promoted to colonel of the engineering troops (Colonel inginer) on August 23, 1979 and in 1980 a member of the Political Council of the 4th Army and a member of the Bureau of the Political Council of the 6th Panzer Division. He was from November 10, 1981 to September 19 1986 Commander of Panzer Division 6 "Horia, Cloșca și Crișa" . As such, he completed another post-academic training course for operational warfare and military strategy between September 15, 1982 and July 14, 1983, and was promoted to major general (maior-general) on August 22, 1984 . In addition, he became a candidate for the Office of the Party Committee in Mureș County in November 1984 . At the thirteenth party conference of the PCR (November 19-22, 1984) he became a candidate for the Central Committee (ZK) of the PCR.

On September 25, 1986 Guşă became First Vice Minister for National Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Romania ( Armata Română ) and held this post until December 28, 1989. As such, he was also from September 25, 1986 to December 28, 1989 also Secretary of the Defense Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania . At the Fourteenth Party Congress of the PCR (November 20 to 24, 1989) he finally became a member of the Central Committee of the PCR, of which he was a member until December 22, 1989. After the fall of Nicolae Ceaușescu in the course of the Romanian Revolution , he was a member of the Council of the Front for National Rescue CFSN (Consiliul Frontului Salvării Naționale) from December 22nd to 26th, 1989 . Most recently he was Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the 4th Army between December 28, 1989 and February 26, 1990.
