The national mathematical and natural science high school “Akad. Ljubomir Tschakalow ” ( Bulgarian Национална природо-математическа гимназия“ Академик Любомир Чакалов ” , or NPMG for short ) is a high school in Sofia , Bulgaria . The school was founded in 1968 and bears the name of the Bulgarian mathematician Lyubomir Tschakalow .

History and successes

The school was founded in September 1964 on the initiative of the mathematics department of Sofia University as an eight-year secondary polytechnic , and in 1968 it became independent. In 1974 a class train with a focus on physics was added, in 1976 one with focus on chemistry and in 1977 one for biology. With the reorganization of the education system in Bulgaria in 1983 , biotechnology and geosciences were also managed independently. The cooperation with the university has been official since 1994. The school also works with Sofia University as the Cisco Networking Academy .

Today the school is one of the most prestigious in town and can boast numerous successes, such as: B. Medals from the International Biology Olympiad (Gold Beijing 2006, Silver Taipei 2012, Brussels 2001, Bronze Changwon 2010, Tsukuba 2009, Mumbai 2008, Brisbane 2004, Antalya 2000), several participations in the Olympics for Geography and Economics (4th place San Diego 2007) and philosophy and numerous victories and places in national competitions.
Radko Kotev (now the University of Glasgow) is one of the best-known graduates of the school, who in 2010 found a fifth fundamental analytical solution to the Apollonian touch problem (European price EUCYS 2010).
