The building of the theater

The National Puppet Theater ( Albanian  Teatri Kombëtar i Kukullave ), today the National Children's Theater ( Teatri Kombëtar Shqiptar i Fëmijëve ) in Tirana , the capital of Albania , is the first of its kind in the country. It was founded in 1950 by a professional drama group. Since 2005 the theater has been functioning as a children's theater under its current name.

Since 1962 the theater has been housed in the former parliament building, which served as the seat of the people's assembly from 1924 to 1939. Originally built by the Austrians  as an officers' mess, the building was used by the fascists after 1939 ( Italian: Camera dei Fasci ). The building has 160 seats.

The National Puppet Theater has around 500 performances a year, either in Tirana or on tour in other cities in Albania. The performances are basically aimed at children. Even today there are still many performances with marionettes and puppets . In addition, the actors appear in masks or as a pantomime .
