National Chinese Seal Museum

The National Chinese Seal Museum ( 中国 印 学 博物馆 , Zhōngguó Yìnxué Bówùguǎn ) was opened to the public in 1999 by the Xiling Seal Society . It is located on the West Lake in Hangzhou . It deals not only with the carved seals widespread in East Asia , but also generally with written documents on metal and stone.

Xiling seal company

The Xiling Seal Society ( 西泠印社 , Xīlíng yìnshè ), founded in 1904, is a "treasure" of the Chinese ethnic culture with the aim of preserving the inscriptions on metals and stones. The main areas of activity include: publications, exhibitions and collections of historical objects, cultural contacts with foreign countries; this made it possible to use these cultural and artistic treasures of China effectively.

Under the changeable historical conditions since the foundation 100 years ago, numerous nationally and internationally recognized scholars, artists, theorists, collectors and connoisseurs from the world of metal and stone inscriptions have listened to it.

National Chinese Seal Museum

In 1999, the National Chinese Seal Museum was opened to the public on the territory and through the cultural assets of the Xiling Society . The aim is to carry out exhibitions on calligraphy and painting on the basis of the seal culture, to expand intellectual knowledge and to promote cultural exchange.

The “National Chinese Seal Museum” is currently the only museum in China that specifically deals with the knowledge of seals and the art of cutting seals. It was opened to the public on September 26, 1999.

The Siegelkundemuseum is located at the east end of the Xiling Bridge on the West Lake. The building covers 1300 m². The name inscription was created by Zhao Puchu. In front of the main building, a 4.20 m high seal handle in the form of a white dragon was placed. The main building houses the Hall of Historical State Seals , the Hall of the Art of Seal Cutting and the Hall of Calligraphy. The exhibited objects show the development history of the seals and the seal customer and are a selection from the best 600 objects; including seldom-shown ceramic discs from the early Qin period , clay seals and the incomparable state seals of the Qin and Han dynasties ; the earliest sealprint album in the world, from the Ming period, collected by the Gu family; Originals and works by the masters of all art movements of the Ming and Qing times . The hall on the history of the Xiling Society is also located here. The covered corridors, the harmonious relationship between the building of the seal society and the seal museum result in an organic unit, embedded in the landscape of the West Lake .
