The Côn Đảo National Park ( Vietnamese Vườn quốc gia Côn Đảo ) is a natural forest reserve on Côn Đảo , Province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tau , Vietnam . The park is located east of the southern tip of Vietnam in the northern zone of the South China Sea . It includes part of the island and the surrounding sea. After the archipelago was placed under public protection in 1983, protection was extended ten years later and the park was rededicated as a national park. The park is characterized by a unique ecosystem. Over 200 coral species and just as many coral fish species as well as sea turtles and the rare dugongs find a home here. Rare bird species such as the two-colored fruit pigeon or the red-billed tropical bird nest in the island world.

In 2006 a delegation from UNESCO declared that this park was suitable for becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Since then, the Vietnamese state has been striving for this award.
