The Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a national park on the Caribbean island of Dominica , which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 . It is located 13 km east of the capital Roseau .

The 6857 hectare area around the 1387 m high volcano Morne Trois Pitons became a national park in 1975. The landscape is characterized by volcanic formations ( Morne Watt ) and deep gorges. In addition, there are around 50 fumaroles , hot springs and the second largest boiling lake in the world in the Valley of Desolation . Two other lakes, Boeri Lake and Freshwater Lake , are separated from each other by the 1121 m high Morne Macaque .

The average temperature in the national park is 19–27 ° C between January and July and 21–28 ° C between August and December. The precipitation amounts to 7600 mm per year.

Rainforest dominates the flora. A large part of the 5000 plant species known on the island is represented, 21 of them indigenous.

The fauna includes seven species of mammals, 135 birds, including an endangered species of parrot, 12 reptiles and amphibians and 12 crustaceans. The species include imperial and blue-headed amazons , sugar birds , Antilles pigeons and boa constrictors .
