The Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano National Park ( Veracruzano Coral Reef System National Park (NPVRS) / Veracruz Coral Bank National Park ) is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Mexico .

The national park is located in the Gulf of Mexico , near the metropolises of Veracruz , Boca del Río and Alvarado in the state of Veracruz . The 52,238 hectare area extends on the continental shelf from the coast to the open sea. In front of the coastline is the Veracruz coral reef, which rises from a water depth of about 40 m.

history

The national park was recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve in 2006 and is under the administration of the cities of Veracruz, Boca del Río and Alvarado.
