The National Socialist Altherrenbund der Deutschen Studenten (NSAHB), also known as NS-Altherrenbund , was a National Socialist-controlled association of academics whose main purpose was to support the activities of the NS-Studentenbund (NSDStB) at the universities.

history

The organization was founded in 1931 under the name NS-Studentenkampfhilfe to bring together National Socialist academics and in particular to provide financial support to the NSDStB. After the organization had in the meantime almost completely lost its importance, it was renewed on May 14, 1936 by decree of Hitler's deputy Rudolf Hess and a year later by another Hess decree to become the “only union of old gentlemen of the Germans recognized by the NSDAP Universities and technical colleges ”explained. The background to this development was the dissolution of most of the old student associations since 1934/1935 or their conversion into comradeships of the NSDStB.

Gustav Adolf Scheel, the leader of the NSAHB

The newly created association should the "homeless" has become old boys' associations of the dissolved corporations and their significant assets ( connecting homes summarized) and make bondage with their financial ability to contribute to the new fellowships. Accordingly, it was renamed the NS-Altherrenbund in 1938 and, as an "organization supervised by the NSDAP", was subordinated to the Reich student leadership under its "leader" Gustav Adolf Scheel . For this purpose it set up its own NS-Altherrenbund office , which received the following tasks:

  • Orientation of the NS-Altherrenbund in the sense of the National Socialist worldview,
  • Registration of all former college and college students in communities on a voluntary basis,
  • Promoting the lively connection between the young students and the old men,
  • Non-material and financial support for the NSDStB, construction and maintenance of houses for the comradeships of the NSDStB.

With the sheet Der Altherrenbund (the 5th year as: Reich und Geist ), the NS-Altherrenbund had an official organ that appeared monthly from July 1938.

According to its own information, the organization had 75,000 members in July 1939. Elderly gentlemen's associations that refused to join the NS-Altherrenbund or were not wanted there (such as the Catholic Altherren's associations) were dissolved in the course of the Himmler decree of June 20, 1938 .

After the end of the Second World War , the NSAHB, like all other Nazi organizations, was dissolved by the Control Council Act No. 2 .
