The Shahid Beheschti University ( Persian دانشگاه شهید بهشتی Daneshgah-e Shahid Beheschti ; English Shahid Beheshti University , BSU), formerly the National University of Iran ( Persian دانشگاه ملی ایران, English The National University of Iran , NUI), is an Iranian university. It was founded in Tehran in 1959 and is named after Mohammad Beheschti .

From 1986 to 2007 the medical faculty was spun off as an independent university under the name “ Shahid Beheschti University for Medical Sciences and Health Services ”.

The Shahid Beheschti University became known abroad, among other things, through the murder of the nuclear scientist Majid Schahriari , who held a professorship at it.
