The National Taipei University ( NTPU , Chinese  國立 臺北 大學 , Pinyin Guólì Táiběi Dàxué , English National Taipei University is a university in New Taipei in the Republic of China on Taiwan .

history

Main entrance to the campus in Taipei

The forerunner of the later national university was the "Provincial College of Public Administration", which was founded in 1949 in Taipei with the purpose of training the future legal and economic elite of the country. In 1961, this Administration College was merged with the newly established Science and Engineering College and the Provincial Agricultural College to form a new university, the Taiwan Chung Hsing Provincial University . The new university had two campuses - one in Taichung and one in Taipei. In the following decades further expansions followed and in 1971 the provincial university was elevated to a national university. In 2000 a university reform took place and the facilities of the Chung Hsing National University on the Taipei campus were separated and transformed into the new Taipei National University.

By 2010, most of the university institutes had moved from the old campus in downtown Taipei to the new Sanxia campus in New Taipei . Like most Taiwanese universities, the NTPU is keen to establish international connections. According to its own information, in 2017 it maintained official contacts with 160 foreign universities in 29 countries.
