Natty Dominique

Anatie "Natty" Dominique (born August 2, 1896 in New Orleans , Louisiana, † August 30, 1982 in Chicago , Illinois) was an American jazz trumpeter of New Orleans jazz . He played with Johnny Dodds .

Natty Dominique was a student of the legendary Manuel Perez , with whom he played in New Orleans. In 1913 he moved to Chicago and played there with Jimmie Noone , Carroll Dickerson and from 1925 mainly with Johnny Dodds , as heard in the titles Bullfiddle Blues, Weary City and Bucktown Stomp (1929). He also worked with Jelly Roll Morton (1923). In the 1940s, Dominique was inactive as a musician for several years, working at the Chicago airport. From the late 1940s, as part of the Dixieland Revival, he performed again with his Creole Dance Band , in which Johnny's younger brother Baby Dodds played. He remained active until the 1960s, recording the album Natty Dominique and His New Orleans Hot Six in 1954 .

Natty Dominique is the uncle of the trumpeter and band leader Don Albert (actually Albert Dominique ).
