Natural Born Hippies is a Danish pop band that achieved success across Europe, especially around the turn of the millennium. The band has been active again since 2018.

Band history

In 1997 Dan Hougesen, Sune Thorbjoernsen, Bo Christensen and Tom Lindby joined forces to form the Natural Born Hippies. A year later, the band was signed by the Danish record label Iceberg Records, whereupon they gained a considerable radio presence in their home country. In 1999 the debut album Popshit came out, from which several singles were released. The cover version "Lola" by The Kinks , which became the band's most famous song, reached number 72 in the German single charts. In 2001 the band released the album I Don't Care , which was only promoted on the basis of the single from "Best Looking Guy in Town". This song can also be heard in the video game for the Pixar film Cars . Just one year later, the third studio album In Your Dreams , which was produced by Lutz Rahn and Mark Wills, was another great success for the band. This album, which contained some songs that were already on I Don't Care , was promoted again through several single releases. The cover version "Get It on" by T. Rex was also released as a single and reached number 92 in the German single charts. In 2005 the Danish band released their fourth studio album entitled Wake up Calls . This long player was hardly noticed by the public any more because of the lack of single releases.

In 2018, the band attracted attention again when they contributed the title song to the Nelson Mandela Library Project - a project that aims to benefit school libraries in South Africa - on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela . The song was also released as a single in digital form.
