Ulf Göpfert

Ulf Göpfert (born July 16, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Göpfert was born in 1943 as the son of the well-known Dresden architecture professor Rolf Göpfert . From 1960 to 1963 he completed a carpenter's apprenticeship with a high school diploma. He also took private lessons in painting and composition. Between 1963 and 1972 he worked as a furniture restorer in the castles and art collections of Weimar , Dresden and Potsdam-Sanssouci, in particular on the restoration of baroque furniture. The encounter with Pop Art in the Leipzig exhibition in 1983 was the reason for him to resume his painting activity. From 1973 to 1990 he worked as a freelance furniture restorer in Dresden and was a member of the Association of Fine Artists of the GDR . From 1986 his works were made available to the public in first exhibitions.

After German reunification he was between 1990 and 1994 as head of the department (present name: Deputy Mayor ) of Culture and Tourism of Dresden worked. Since 1994 he has been working as a freelance painter in Dresden.
