Rolf Fritz Göpfert (born December 7, 1903 in Freiberg ; † October 26, 1994 in Dresden ) was a German architect , artist and Dresden architecture professor.

Rolf Göpfert was born in Freiberg in 1903, where his grandfather, the master builder Carl Friedrich Göpfert († 1891), founded a construction company which Rolf's father, the master builder and architect Max Richard Göpfert, continued.

Richard's brother was the builder, politician and castle researcher Arthur Hugo Göpfert (1872–1949), who was also born in Freiberg , and was therefore Rolf's uncle.

Rolf Göpfert was the father of Heiner and Ulf Göpfert .

Live and act

From 1924 he studied architecture with Oswin Hempel , Otto Schubert , Richard Müller , Fritz Beckert and Kurt Diestel at the Technical University of Dresden . After completing the intermediate diploma, he studied at the TH Aachen (diploma thesis 1928). From 1929 he worked as an architect in Magdeburg and Freiberg and from 1932 also worked as a graphic artist.

In 1934 he founded his own architecture office and worked as a freelance architect until 1949, among other things in the field of monument preservation. From 1949 to 1950 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Civil Engineering of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin and from 1951 to 1955 chief architect under Hermann Henselmann . In 1955, as the successor to Karl Wilhelm Ochs , he took over the chair for building design and building theory at the TH Dresden, which he held until 1969. He was a full professor of building design and building theory; he also headed the institute of the same name. In addition, he made a significant contribution to the preservation of the Dresden residential palace .

Göpfert died in Dresden in 1994 and was buried in the churchyard of Maria am Wasser .
