Natural Bridge (Virginia)
The Natural Bridge ( Natural Bridge ) is a geological formation in Rockbridge County , Virginia , USA . The Natural Bridge is near Interstate 81 and the Blue Ridge Parkway , and Highway 11 runs right over it. The formation was listed as a site on the National Register of Historic Places in November 1997 . Since August of the following year it has the status of a National Historic Landmark . It is also the Natural Bridge Contributing Property of the Natural Bridge Historic District , which was created in February 2016. It has been designated as a state park since 2016 .
The Natural Bridge was created through leaching that Cedar Creek , a tributary of the James River , left in the limestone over time. At a height of 67 m, it spans 27 m. In the immediate vicinity there are hotels and cabins (holiday homes) as well as shopping facilities for tourists, which are offered a sound and light show in the evening. The deepest caves in the east of the USA and a wax museum are also among the attractions.
