The Salzkammergut Natural History Museum is a natural history museum between Ebensee and Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria . It is located on Salzkammergut Straße (B 145). The museum was founded on the initiative of the Gratzer family. The focus of the exhibitions is on the fauna of the Salzkammergut.

The museum was opened in September 2009 and sees itself as an information center for natural scientific regional studies and as a place for ecological awareness-raising. The exhibits shown are shown in dioramas in which the viewer does not discover the objects at first glance, but only on closer inspection.

In the meantime, groups interested in nature such as entomologists , ornithologists and herpetologists also meet in the museum for lectures. In cooperation with schools, it won first prize in the “Well learned” category for the educational trail belonging to the museum in 2009 at the children's day of ideas “Nature from the Farmer's Hand” advertised by the state of Upper Austria , and in cooperation with the Salzkammergut agricultural training center . In the summer months, the biotope also serves as a classroom in the countryside. The museum itself does not show any live animals. However, insects , but also reptiles and amphibians live outside .

In summer there are regular evenings with lights to attract butterflies .

In addition to the visitors, the museum also works scientifically. The museum has a scientifically structured collection of insects and specimens from various eras.
