Natural sights

The Hohe Wand is a wooded plateau mountain in the transition area from the alpine mountain to the Pannonian influenced rock-steppe flora and fauna. The cliffs, which are up to 230 meters high, slope down to the southeast, exposed to the so-called New World. There are several small and larger caves in the limestone, for example the Kohlröserl cave (Czerny cave) by the rock path or the unicorn cave , a show cave near Dreistetten .

Built sights

There has been a tourist infrastructure on the high plateau for a long time; a public road up to the plateau was carved into the rock as early as the 1930s. A chairlift, which has now been closed, also opened up the area.

The following facilities are available on the plateau:

  • a near-natural children's playground with an adjoining petting zoo and a so-called play and fun mountain with a wildlife enclosure, observation tower and walk-in marmot burrow for human standards,
  • an alpine and local museum,
  • a nature park parlor,
  • a dense network of marked hiking trails, secured via ferrata and free climbing areas as well as launch sites for hang-gliders and paragliders,
  • on the upper edge of the wall a viewing terrace called "Skywalk" (see illustration) and a so-called "rock path" at the Kohlröserlhaus,
  • Forest educational tours, adventure tours and llama trekking.
