Fruit Hill Country Natural Park

The Obst-Hügel-Land nature park is located in the Upper Austrian Alpine foothills between the cities of Wels and Eferding . The nature park was opened on April 30, 2005 and covers a total area of ​​2629.1 hectares. About two thirds of the total area of ​​the communities Scharten and St. Marienkirchen an der Polsenz belong to the Obst-Hügel-Land nature park.

The attraction of the nature park lies in the high density of fruit trees. In addition to the production of must , the fruit trees in the Schlier area , which is very prone to landslides, are also of great importance due to their slope stabilizing effect. The orchards offer by combining trees and meadows habitat for a very wide variety of animal species. Many rare or endangered insects and birds depend on this ecological niche.

The aim of the nature park is to secure the natural area with its orchards, rows and alleys through sustainable use in its diversity and beauty and to preserve the cultural landscape that has been shaped by centuries.

Awards

The Obst-Hügel-Land nature park was named Nature Park of the Year 2009 by the Association of Nature Parks in Austria . According to the state ordinance, it is designated as a landscape protection area in the sense of Section 11 of the Upper Austrian Nature Conservation Act - the concept of the nature park is integrated in Upper Austria in that of the landscape protection area
