from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Abbabach nature reserve is a 39  hectare nature reserve (NSG) on the western city limits of Menden (Sauerland) in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2004 the district government of Arnsberg designated the area as a NSG by ordinance. The NSG borders directly on the western city limits. In the town of Iserlohn it borders directly on the nature reserve of the same name . In the north the NSG goes to the edge of the floodplain of the Ruhr .

Area description

The NSG is the Abbabach and its tributaries with wooded floodplains used as grassland . The Abbabach is predominantly strongly meandering. The stream has near-natural flowing water sections with well-developed, submerged vegetation, gravel banks, pools, bank breaks and steep walls and smaller alluvial forest areas. In the floodplain there are alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests that accompany the stream, as well as other riparian wood. In grassland there are tall herbaceous vegetation, fallow grassland, wet and humid grassland as well as standing water. In dry areas there are natural oak forests.
