Area description

The NSG consists of two near-natural alder forests with a damp headwaters in the Fürstenberg Forest. The quarry forest was formerly managed as coppice forest. The alder quarry forests drain to various source streams, which are accompanied by narrower alder-ash forests and finally both flow into the Kleine Aa . A small pond was created on the southwestern stream. In the area of the watershed between the two streams, beeches and oaks dominate the tree population when they are very old. The area is a feeding habitat and a. of the black stork. For further optimization, according to the designation, the medium-term conversion of coniferous wood stocks into deciduous forests appropriate to the location should take place. The preservation of old and dead wood is planned. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. For areas of the NSG, which are the private forest of Count von Westphalen , a contract for protection and conservation was concluded in 2001.
