Halver Hülloch cave nature reserve

The nature reserve Höhle Halver Hülloch is a 6.6  hectare nature reserve (NSG) east of the hamlet Löhbach in the urban area of Halver in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2004 the district government of Arnsberg designated the area as a NSG by ordinance. A part of the nature reserve has also been designated as the FFH area Halver Hülloch (No. DE-4710-302) since 2004 .

Area description

The NSG is the Hülloch cave, which is not open to tourists, and the surrounding forest. The cave is branched into several corridors, the length of which adds up to a total of 655 m. It lies in a calcareous lens of the lower middle Devon . There are stalactite jewelry and cave waters in the cave. In the cave there are clear traces found of iron ore - Mining as mining techniques applied or extended cavities with numerous Bohrpfeifen. In the upper main corridors there is occasional dripping water, in the lowest cave level there are groundwater channels.

The built-in cave entrance is in a former quarry. The break is surrounded by beech-lime forest. The quarry is part of a large mining field.

The cave serves as winter quarters for specialized species such as bats ( great mouse-eared bats ), amphibians and insects.
