The nature reserve Tschengene Skele (also Chengene Skele and outdated Cingene Skela , Bulgarian Ченгене скеле , to German from the Turkish gypsy port) was declared a nature reserve in 1995 . It is located immediately south of the port city of Burgas , in the bay of the same name in the Black Sea in the Gulf of Burgas . The Burgas- Sozopol expressway runs nearby . The nature reserve lies along the eastern north-south migration route of migratory birds , the Via Pontica, and covers an area of ​​191.19 hectares . Tschengene Skele is one of the few protected areas in Bulgaria that also includes an area of ​​land and sea. The rural part includes areas of the Kraimorie district of Burgas and the municipality of Marinka .

The southern nine-spined stickleback and three-spined stickleback , the Caucasus goby and the marbled goby are among the fish species that can be found in the nature reserve. 121 species of birds under protection in Bulgaria have been registered on the territory of the nature reserve. It is one of the few Bulgarian biotopes where the thin-billed curlew overwinters. In 1997, the Tschengene Skele nature reserve was classified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International .
