Naum Akimowitsch Senjawin
Naum Akimowitsch Senjawin ( Russian Наум Акимович Сенявин ; * approx. 1680 ; † June 4, 1738 ) was a Vice Admiral of the Imperial Russian Navy and commander in the Great Northern War since 1727 .
Life
Naum Senjawin began his military career as a soldier in the Preobrazhensky regiment in 1698. He soon became a seaman, joined the Baltic Fleet and was then promoted to the rank of non-commissioned officer. Senjawin distinguished itself during the Great Northern War. In 1713 he was appointed commander of a warship. As the commander of a naval squadron , Senjawin captured three Swedish ships during the sea battle at Ösel in 1719. In 1721 he became a member of the Admiralty College (Адмиралтейств-коллегия). Between 1728 and 1732 Senjawin commanded a galley fleet. In September 1737 he was appointed commander of the Dnieper Flotilla during the Russo-Turkish War from 1735 to 1739 .
