The Naumburger Ballspiel Club 1920 eV was a sports club in Naumburg , in the German state Saxony-Anhalt . From its re-establishment in 1991, it has only played football. In 2010 it had 167 members, the club colors were red and white. The club uses the Saalestrasse sports field in the north of the city, which has 6,000 standing places.

Club development

The Naumburger BC 1920 was founded in 1920 in competition with the Naumburg Sports Association 05 , which existed from 1905 . However, BC 1920 was overshadowed by the more successful SpVgg 05 until the end of the Second World War. After the end of the war, both associations were dissolved on January 1, 1946 on the basis of Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers. After a transition period with loosely organized sports communities, the machine tool factory Gehring founded the company sports community (BSG) MWM Vorwärts Naumburg in 1947 . After the nationalization of the machine works, the BSG split into new company sports associations between 1949 and 1950. The BSG unit developed as one of the most competitive with sports sections such as soccer, boxing, roller skating and figure skating, rowing, bowling and motor sports. The roller skaters who produced Renate Loeser, a five-time GDR champion between 1955 and 1961, were particularly successful. In 1964 the BSG unit and the BSG rotation merged to form TSG Naumburg, primarily to strengthen football. The later rowing world champion Renate Bänsch also emerged from TSG. In 1975 the furniture factory WiWeNa took over the sponsorship of the sports community, which became BSG WiWeNa Naumburg. In 1981 the name was changed again to BSG MEWA. After the system of company sports associations collapsed as a result of the political change in 1989, Naumburg BC was re-established in 1920. In 2010, the members of the BC 1920 rejected a merger with the Naumburger SV 05. The merger for the 2015/16 season, which was planned five years later, still did not take place, in March 2016 it was finally decided to carry out the merger before the start of the 2016/17 season and to adopt the name SC Naumburg .

Development of the sport of football

Naumburg BC was always overshadowed by Naumburg SpVgg 05 until the end of World War II. Only when TSG Naumburg was founded in 1964 as one of the successor communities of NBC did it take over the leadership in Naumburg football. However, this only led to third division when TSG rose to the Halle district league in 1966 . The district league was initially only a three-year interlude, it was only between 1973 and 1980 that TSG and the successor BSG WiWeNa were able to stay in the district league for a longer period of time. After relegation from 1980 until the end of the GDR football system, the return to higher-class football was no longer possible.

In the 1979/80 relegation season, WiWeNa Naumburg briefly attracted attention throughout the GDR . As the cup winners of the Halle district, the Naumburg team qualified for the GDR soccer cup competition ( FDGB cup ) 1979/80. On August 19, 1979, WiWeNa met the second-rate BSG Motor Nordhausen in the first round of the cup and were only marginally defeated 1: 2.

After East German football was converted to the DFB game system in 1991 , real competition developed in Naumburg between the two football clubs Naumburger BC and Naumburger SpVgg. At times both teams played against each other in the national league. Naumburger BC rose to the then seventh-class state league in 2002, and from 2009 there has been a back and forth between the state league and the state class.
