Athletic career

In 1949, at the age of thirteen, Kalinke joined the lower-class company sports association (BSG) Rotation Naumburg . As a talented young player he had to be "delegated" to the newly founded soccer team of the SC DHfK Leipzig in 1954 , as it was called in the official language. The FC DHfK, which had been integrated into the second highest GDR soccer class ( GDR league ) without any athletic qualifications , dissolved its soccer section again after six months due to unsuccessfulness, and some of the players became the newly founded ZSK Vorwärts Berlin in March 1955 transferred, including Peter Kalinke.

In Berlin he played mostly in the right defender position until 1968 and came to 219 games in the highest GDR soccer class, the GDR Oberliga . There are also 14 appearances in the European Football Cup . With Vorwärts Berlin, Kalinke was GDR soccer champion in 1958 , 1960 , 1962 , 1965 and 1966 .

After 8 appearances in the GDR junior team and 2 appointments in the junior team, Kalinke played his first international match against Bulgaria on July 10, 1960 in Sofia (0: 2). In total he came to 7 full internationals by 1961. He was then ousted from his position as right-back by Halle's Klaus Urbanczyk .

Kalinke ended his active career in the second team of what is now FC Vorwärts Berlin, with whom he was able to celebrate promotion to the GDR league in 1969. In 1971 he finally retired from competitive sports.
