Nazira Karimo Vali Abdula , or Nazira Abdula for short , (* 1969 in Nampula , Nampula Province , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican pediatrician and politician ( FRELIMO ). Since January 19, 2015, Abdula has been head of the health department in the Nyusi cabinet .

Life

education

Nazira Abdula was born in 1969 in the northern Mozambican city of Nampula . She studied medicine at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane and specialized in pediatrics . She completed a post-graduation at the Maputo Central Hospital , u. a. with a working stay at the Hospital de São João in Porto .

After her training, Abdula worked at the hospital in Mavalane (Maputo) from 1993 to 1997 . There she headed the malaria program for the district. During the cholera epidemic in Maputo in 1997, Abdula was in charge of the cholera ward at the Maputo Central Hospital.

From 2004 to 2006 Abdula attended Flinders University in Adelaide ( Australia ) to obtain a master’s degree in nutritional science . After returning to Mozambique, she moved to Beira ( Sofala Province ), where she took over the management of the city's central hospital. In July 2008, the Ministry of Health sent Abdula to her hometown of Nampula, where she ran the local central hospital until 2010.

Call to the cabinet

In May 2010, President Armando Guebuza subsequently appointed Abdula to his cabinet as Deputy Minister of Health, headed by Minister of Health Paulo Garrido . After Filipe Nyusi was elected President in October 2014, he appointed her Chief Minister of Health in his cabinet . Abdula named the lack of medication and poor patient care in state hospitals as priorities of her tenure.
