Ndwedwe is a place in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa . It is the administrative seat of the municipality of Ndwedwe in the iLembe district .

geography

Ndwedwe had 4,488 inhabitants at the 2011 census, 94% of whom indicated isiZulu as their first language. The place is located in the Valley of a Thousand Hills (German about: "Valley of a thousand hills") near the Mdloti River and around 60 kilometers north of Durban and 20 west of Tongaat .

history

The place name comes from the isiZulu and means something like "long, flat table land or ridge" or "thoughtful".
