from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Neşet Ertaş (born 1938 in Kırtıllar, Kırşehir Province , Turkey ; died September 25, 2012 in Izmir , Turkey) was a Turkish singer , baglama player and composer . The place of birth Kırtıllar is now a hamlet ( mahalle ) belonging to the village of Kelismailuşağı in the Akpınar district, and has changed its administrative assignment several times since its birth, resulting in different information about the place of birth.

Life

Ertaş made many songs from his Central Anatolian homeland Kırşehir known nationwide in the 1970s, and numerous well-known songs were composed by him.

After the death of Mahzuni Serif in 2002, he was considered one of the most important Turkish Aşık ("People's Poets"). In contrast to those of Mahzuni Şerif, his songs were characterized less by political statements than by the poetry of his texts.

Neşet Ertaş, like his no less well-known father, Muharrem Ertaş , was an Abdāl , a traveling singer who went from place to place and performed typical tunes from his homeland Kırşehir at weddings and other occasions.

After an illness, he went with the wave of Turkish workers to Germany, where he continued his musical engagement unabated by performing at events held by his compatriots. He lived in Berlin for a while and ran a music shop in the so-called Turkish Bazaar in the Bülowstraße underground station, which was closed until the fall of the Berlin Wall . Cologne later became his adopted home.

Before his death, he spent a lot of time in Turkey and occasionally gave concerts and appeared on Turkish television.

Some of his best known and most covered songs are: Gönül Dağı, Zülüf Dökülmüş Yüze, Kendim Ettim Kendim Buldum, Nar Danesi, Zahidem, Kaşların Karasına, Neredesin Sen, Doyulur mu Doyulur mu, Dane Dane Dunleri, Ah Yüz Benleri.

Ertaş was admitted to a clinic in Izmir on September 10, 2012 due to cancer and a chronic illness, where he died on September 25, 2012 at the age of 74.
