Necrosis was a Chilean thrash metal band from Santiago de Chile , which was active intermittently from 1985 to 2017.

history

The band was founded in 1985 and initially consisted of the guitarist Yerko Tolic, the singer Andrés Marchant and the bassist Miguel Ángel Montenegro. However, the work did not start to become professional until 1987 when the brothers Andy (drums) and Pepe Nacrur (electric guitar) from the band Massacre joined the cast. They then started promoting their first demo . At that time, the line-up consisted of the Nacrur brothers, guitarist Nataniel Infante, bassist Rodrigo Westphal and singer Merchant. The Morbid Magazine led the demonstration in the list of world's 25 best demos of 1987 at No. 19. Through the demo, the group could keep enhanced performances, while the demo around 1,500 copies were sold. In early 1988, Merchant took a few copies of the demo to Brazil , where he was able to secure a record deal with Heavy Metal Maniac Records , a label that later renamed itself Hellion Records. The contract was signed in March. The recordings for the debut album The Search then took place in Chile, with the finished material being produced in Brazil by Moises Dell Monica . 3,500 copies of the album were sold in Chile and Brazil. In order to promote the album, the label and Moises Dell Monica organized a gig in São Paulo in February 1989 at the Projeto Leste, a facility that could hold around 5,000 visitors. The gig was held together with MX , Korzus and Ratos de Porão . Originally, Kreator was planned instead of Necrosis, but Kreator canceled, so Necrosis stepped in. In March, the band returned to Chile with 1,000 copies of the album remaining. More local performances followed, with an average attendance of 2,000 people while the album sold out. Due to other activities such as study and work, the group became less active. Andy Nacrur and Rodrigo Westphal left the band to devote themselves to other projects. In 1990 the last appearance was held in the Casa Constitucion in Barrio Bellavista in Santiago de Chile. The line-up now consisted of the drummer Marcelo Ulloa, the guitarists Infante and Nacrur, the bassist Montenegro and the singer Merchant. The decisive factor for the band breakup was the suicide of the actual bass player Alfredo "Babe" Peña. In 1997 the debut album was re-released via Toxic Records , with EMI Odeon Chilena SA taking over the distribution.

In 1999 the band was revived by Andy Nacrur, who in the meantime had devoted himself again to Massacre (now known under the slightly different name Massakre). The only member besides him already known was Nataniel Infante. The line-up was supplemented by the singer Gustavo Robles, the bassist Victor Trujillo and the guitarist César Añasco. As a result, the first performance since the re-establishment was held in front of about 1,000 people in Santiago de Chile. After a few more concerts, Trujillo left the group to join Totten Korps . Rodrigo "Mota" Onetto joined in as a replacement. Then began work on the second album Enslaved to the Machine , which was released in December 2001. On the day of its release, the band performed live to promote the album. After performing together with Criminal , Massakre, Sadism , Torturer and Pentagram Chile , Añasco left the band after a concert in La Serena in 2002. His post was initially taken by Javier Bassino. However, this position has been subject to frequent changes, with one of the most consistent guitarists being Daniel Duarte. The next member got out Rodrigo Onetto, whereupon Victor Trujillo returned briefly so that the already planned appearances could take place. This was followed by a performance together with Kreator and Destruction at the Teatro Providencia in Santiago de Chile in front of around 1,500 listeners. In early 2003 the band split up again.

After three years the band was reactivated again and consisted of the singer Robles, the guitarists Añasco and Infante, the drummer Nacrur and the bassist Westphal. After an appearance as the opening act for Testament in early 2007, there was some tension between the members, which is why it was quiet around the band for a while. Nacrur then fired Infante and Añasco due to musical differences. The remaining members then started looking for a suitable replacement. Daniel Duarte returned to the group as guitarist, while the new member Roberto Villaroel played the other electric guitar. This line-up did not last long either, which is why Gerardo Salas and Martin Lorie took over the electric guitars. Then began work on the next album, which should initially be called Burnt into Ashes . Instead, the album Reborn was released in 2009 , which consists of nine songs. The line-up now consisted of the guitarists Rene Mundaca and Sergio Aravena in addition to Nubles, Nacrur and Onetto. In 2010 this line-up performed with Megadeth in the Movistar Arena in front of around 15,000 people. After that, guitarist Pepe Nacrur returned to the band. Since the band was in conflict with his work, Robles left the band, whereupon he was replaced by Pablo Ojeda. In this line-up, which was changed again, the band played with Destruction in Santiago de Chile in 2011. In 2014, Reenslaved to the Machine , a remake of Enslaved to the Machine, was released . The recordings, directed by Andy Nacrur, took place in the RAF Studios in Santiago de Chile. The music was written by Nacrur, Infante and Añasco, except for the song Electric Prayer , which was written by Miguel Lara. On the 2015 album Age of Decadence the only known members are Andy Nacrur and Sergio Aravena. In addition to them, the group consists of bassist Patricio Ahumada, guitarist Victor Contreras and singer Jorge Luis Jones. After the band had been barely active for a year and a half, they announced their final breakup in mid-2017.

style

According to classicthrash.com , a Chilean band was extremely unusual until The Search was published , so that Necrosis can pretty much be seen as the sole first Chilean representative of the genre. The songs are technically slightly demanding, with both medium-paced and fast songs. The vocals sound a bit thin, however. Enslaved to the Machine differs from its predecessor, which is due to the use of improved technology for 13 years. The differences are superficial, however, so that the band's typical sound remains. The singing is deeper and the production is better. Reborn sounds strong and powerful, but the songwriting could be improved, as there are often repetitive elements in the songs. Overall, the album lacks memorable songs. Michael Oelschlegel from voicesfromthedarkside.de wrote in his review of the album that it was a sequel to Enslaved to the Machine . Here you can hear Thrash Metal in a classic style enriched with a few modern elements. Otherwise, angry singing and powerfully played drums can be heard in the songs. The songs are usually played quickly, but avoid getting too fast.
