Pentagram Chile is a Chilean thrash and death metal band from Santiago de Chile , which was founded in 1985 under the name Pentagram , split up in 1988, got together again for a gig in 2001 and has been playing concerts regularly since 2009.

history

The band was founded in 1985 by guitarist and singer Anton Reisenegger and guitarist Juan Pablo Uribe under the name Pentagram, although neither of them knew at that time that there was already a band of the same name . Together, the band developed the first songs, the pieces initially sounding like more primitive versions of the songs of their role models such as Slayer , Possessed , Dark Angel , Celtic Frost , Kreator and Destruction . Her first appearance followed on December 28, 1985, with Eduardo Topelberg playing in the band as a drummer. However, it was over a year before he joined the band as a permanent member. In January 1987 the band recorded their first demo. This made the band more popular and played concerts all over Chile. The band was still a trio, with Reisenegger taking on bass in the studio while Uribe switched from electric guitar to bass for live performances. Shortly after the first demo was completed, Reisenegger went to Brazil to see his pen pals Max and Igor Cavalera from Sepultura in Belo Horizonte . During a stopover in Rio de Janeiro , he signed a contract with the Brazilian label Point Rock . Due to the lack of communication between the band and the label, however, there was never a release, so the contract was soon canceled. However, two songs from the first demo were released as EP on the Swiss label Chainsaw Murder Records . Shortly after the release, bassist Alfredo Peña joined the line-up, completing the line-up. This was followed by other appearances in Chile, some of which were canceled by Augusto Pinochet because he did not tolerate the appearances. Meanwhile, the groups also worked on a second demo. After the release of the second demo in 1987, the band split up for the time being due to the lack of success. The last appearances took place in 1988.

Anton Reisenegger with Max Cavalera

Reisenegger formed a band called Fallout, and later formed the band Criminal . Peña joined the Chilean thrash metal band Necrosis and committed suicide in 1990. Topelberg played in various bands such as Dorso . Uribe only played in a few smaller rock 'n' roll bands and otherwise focused on his career as a teacher and personal trainer . While Pentagram was inactive, her tracks were covered by many bands such as Avulsed , Chiles Torturer , Pentacle and Napalm Death . In 2000 Picoroco Records released the compilation Pentagram in collaboration with Reisenegger with both demos and live recordings. In 2001 the band reunited for a gig in Santiago, with Criminals Juan Francisco Cueto replacing the late bassist Alfredo Peña. The concert was recorded and later released on CD and VHS on Picoroco Records. In 2008 Cyclone Empire Records released the self-titled compilation with additional extras under the name Under the Spell of the Pentagram . The concert from 2001 and concert recordings from the 1980s were included as extras. After that, the band planned to reunite under the name Pentagram Chile and held some gigs in the summer of 2009.

style

The band plays a mixture of Thrash and Death Metal, the songs are compared to the old works of Possessed as well as Kreator and Xecutioner (later Obituary ).
