MX is a Brazilian thrash metal band from Santo André that was formed in 1985.

history

The band was founded in 1985 and consisted of singer Beraldo, guitarists Alexandre "Dead" Prado Favoretto and Décio Frignani, bassist Yuri Konopinski and drummer Alexandre Da Cuhuna. A short time later Beraldo left the band and later died. In addition, Konopinski was replaced by Eduardo. Guitarist Alexandre Prado Favoretto and drummer Da Cuhuna shared the vocals. In 1987 the group recorded the demo Fighting for the Bastards . The following year the band took part in the split release Headthrashers by Hellion Records . Other bands on record were Blasphemer, Cova and Necromancia. The material contributed by MX was from a concert in January 1987 in Santo André. In February 1988 the group went to the Cameratti Studios in Santo André to record their debut album Simoniacal , which was released in the same year, also on Fucker Records. The label was later to rename itself to the Brazilian version of Hellion Records. In the same year the band should play as opening act for Kreator ; However, Kreator himself could not take part in the concert, which made it possible for MX to play with bands like Ratos de Porão , Sepultura and Necrosis . After the album was released, Chico Comelli from Acid Storm joined the line-up as the new bass player. In 1989 the album Mental Slavery was released . In the same year the band played as opening act for Testament ’s first gig in Brazil. Shortly after this concert the guitarist Friganani left the band and was replaced by the guitarist Carlos Marcelo "CM" Scarpelini. In the following years, Two more albums followed with Again (1997) and The Last File (2000). In the meantime the band played together with Kreator (1997) and Paul Di'Anno (1999), among others . In 2004 Marquee Records released the debut album again, which now contained nine bonus songs that come from the demo Fighting for the Bastards . Also Mental Slavery was re-released with this label with bonus material. At the beginning of the new millennium, the group had stopped its activities and the members devoted themselves to other things. In 2012 a concert followed in which MX consisted of Prado Favoretto, who took over the bass, electric guitar and vocals, as well as singer and drummer Da Cuhuna, guitarist Décio Frignani and bassist and guitarist Alexandre "Dumbo" Gonsalves. The band played with Arch Enemy before playing with Destruction in Catanduva and Soulfly in Manaus . The group also took part in various festivals, in which bands like Kreator and DRI also took part. In 2014 the album Re-Lapse was released via Substantial Music , which was only a newly recorded version of the debut album. In the song Fighting for the Bastards Joao Gordo from Ratos de Porão was heard as a guest musician. In addition, the group held performances together with Voivod , Kataklysm , Ratos de Porão, Exodus and Whiplash .

style

Martin Popoff wrote in his book that when he heard Simoniacal he was immediately reminded of Holocausto , as the band played wild, black metal -influenced Thrash Metal. There are melodic, punk riffs in the songs . According to classicthrash.com , at the beginning of the album the band still plays Thrash Metal comparable to the early works of Protector . However, towards the middle of the album, the music becomes more inspired. Mental Slavery, on the other hand, offers more typical Thrash Metal. The songs would hardly differ and would have hardly any originality or variation, so that it felt like listening to the same song several times. The songs on Again are a mixture of fast Thrash Metal and mid-tempo pieces with occasional bursts of speed.
