Holocausto is a thrash and black metal band from Belo Horizonte , Brazil . The band was founded in 1985 by Marco Antônio, Valério Exterminator and Rodrigo dos Anjos. By 2012, five records had been released by Cogumelo Records . Journalist Eduardo Rivadavia has described them as “perhaps the most controversial Brazilian heavy metal band in history”.

history

Holocausto was founded in 1985 by bassist Marco Antônio, singer and guitarist Valério Exterminator (vocals / guitar) and guitarist Rodrigo dos Anjos. After the first demo called Massacre was recorded in 1985 and had contributed to the split release Warfare Noise I by Cogumelo Records, the band caused controversy with the release of the debut album Campo de Extermínio . After South American bands such as Sepultura , Vulcano and Sarcófago had already provoked with anti-Christian and satanist texts, the Holocausto vividly described the Nazi acts of violence in the concentration camps, which led to them being described as hostile to Jews . The band commented that “they are only trying to portray the horrors of the Holocaust in all of its gruesome detail” and that “the album's shocking and determined portrayal was intended to illustrate the disgust that led them to them Name moved ”.

In the following years, the line-up of the band changed several times, while they released more albums through Cogumelo Records. The lack of a breakthrough was due to the frequent line-up changes, the late use of English lyrics and the theme of the debut album, so that the band split up in 1994. The band reunited in 2004 and released an album influenced by hardcore punk called De Volta ao Front in 2005.

style

The band initially played music with black metal influence, but the band developed into a pure thrash metal band, where they are compared to other bands such as Sepultura . In terms of sound, the songs are reminiscent of works by bands such as Bathory and Venom .
