The Needle Rocks , also simply called Needles , are rock islands belonging to the Maatsuyker Islands off the southeastern cape of Tasmania and have a total area of ​​10.5 hectares. They consist of five main rocks and a few smaller boulders, which a few meters from the southwesternmost point of Maatsuyker Island form a row about two kilometers long to the west. They belong to the Southwest National Park .

Flora and fauna

Vegetation exists on the island only in the form of the succulent plant Carpobrotus rossii .

Among the marine and waders were little penguins , the short-tailed Shearwater , Feensturmvögel , diving petrel and the carbon black-Austernfischer recorded; in places there are also skinks . At certain times of the year, South African fur seals can be found on some sides of the rocks .
