Neemuch is a city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh . The city is located in the west of the state and borders Rajasthan . It belongs to the historical Malwa region .
The city is the administrative center of the Neemuch district of the same name . Neemuch has Municipal Council status . The city is divided into 41 wards .
history
Formerly a large British military canton of the princely state of Gwalior , the city became the seat of the combined Rajputana-Malwa Agency in 1822 and the Malwa Agency in 1895. The British canton was dissolved in 1932 and then maintained by a British local government before it became part of India in 1948.
Demographics
The city's population is 128,095 according to the 2011 census. Neemuch has a gender ratio of 894 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 84.6%. Almost 70% of the population are Hindus , approx. 24% are Muslims , approx. 4% are Jainas and approx. 2% belong to another or no religion. Children under 6 years of age are 11.9% of the population.
Infrastructure
Neemuch is an important broad gauge station on the Ajmer - Ratlam line. The Neemuch station was built by the British in 1880. The city is also connected to the national road network by a national highway. There is also a small landing pad for helicopters and small planes.
