Nelson Cowan

Nelson Cowan (born March 7, 1951 in Washington, DC ) is an American psychologist .

Cowan is mainly concerned with working memory and its development. In 1999 he published his working memory model " Embedded Processing Model of Working Memory ". He teaches as a professor of psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia .

Cowan received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1973 and his Masters from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1977 . There he received his doctorate in 1980 with the dissertation "Toward an understanding of morphological segmentation in unfamiliar languages."
