Ned sang at events in his hometown as a child. At the age of twelve he started to work in a chocolate factory in Belo Horizonte. At the same time he appeared in the children's programs Cirquinho do Bolão and Clube do Pererê on TV Itacolomi and in Aldair Pintos programs on Rádio Inconfidência . At the age of thirteen he recorded a single with the waltz Eu Sonhei que tu Estavas tão Linda by Lamartine Babo and Francisco Matoso and the Prelúdio à Volta by Osmar Navarro .

In 1968 he went to Rio de Janeiro and published the LP Um Show de 90 Centímetros there . In 1968 he signed a contract with the Chantecler label , where the songs Tamanho Não É Documento (with Hamilton Gouvêa Bastos ), and Me Ensine a Viver sem Você appeared. In the same year he won first prize at the Festival de la Canción in Buenos Aires with his composition Tudo Passará . The LP of the same name with arrangements and conducted by Antônio Porto Filho (Maestro Portinho) was released in 1969.

In the 1970s, Ned toured Latin America and the United States, and in 1974 he performed at New York's Carnegie Hall . With O Poder da Fé he released his first gospel album in 1976. In 1974 he had great success in the USA with Happy Birthday, My Darling . In 1981 he recorded the album Perdidamente Apaixonado in Spanish . The short musician (he was 1.22 m tall) had to struggle with health problems with increasing age; he suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure. A stroke ended his stage career in 2003. He spent the remaining years of his life in a nursing home.
