Nelson Shin (* 1939 ) is a South Korean animator and producer as well as the founder and chairman of Akom Production Co., Ltd.

Life

He started as an animator at DePatie-Freleng Enterprises in the 1970s, where he worked on the Pink Panther films. He is still the creator of the glowing "lightsaber blades" used by the Jedi Knights in Star Wars .

Shin's animation studio mainly produces for American television series, including: The Simpsons , Batman: The Animated Series , X-Men , Invasion America and Arthur . Shin is the producer of the television series The Transformers and Transformers - The Battle for Cybertron . Akom's lead animator is Kim Jun-bok .

His film Empress Chung was the first film to be shown simultaneously in North and South Korea.

In 2009 he was appointed chairman of the International Animated Film Association , which he was until 2012.
