X-Men ( English X-Men , also X-Men: The Animated Series ) is an American cartoon series based on the comic adventures of the X-Men published by Marvel . It was the second attempt by Marvel Comics to establish the X-Men as their own series format after the first attempt by the pilot X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men had failed. Together with The Invincible Iron Man , The Fantastic Four with New Adventures , New Spider-Man , The Incredible Hulk , Silver Surfer , Spider-Man Unlimited and The Avengers - United They Stand , the series forms the Marvel Animated Universe .
In Germany, the series was broadcast for the first time on September 25, 1993 on RTL.
action
The series tells of the struggle between the X-Men and, among others, Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants, the anti-mutant community and the Sentinels.
Production and publication
Originally the series was supposed to start in September 1992 on Labor Day weekend , due to production difficulties the start was postponed to the end of October. On October 31, 1992, the two-part "Hunt for the Mutants" (original title Night of the Sentinel ) was shown as sneak peek . The version shown was full of animation errors and was subsequently corrected.
The first season comprises a total of 13 episodes and comprises a self-contained plot, as the producers of the series did not know at the time whether FOX , the broadcaster that aired the series, would renew the series for a second season. After the first season gained popularity, the network decided to put 39 more episodes in production. Due to the increasing success during the broadcast of the second season, 14 more episodes, which were to be shown as the final fourth season, were ordered immediately afterwards.
However, during the production of these 53 new episodes there were again production difficulties and so the episodes were broadcast in a random order, which meant that various storylines overlapped and many scenarios took place earlier or later than originally planned. The series was supposed to end with the four-part "Ruler over Good and Evil" (original title Beyond Good and Evil ), but Fox decided at the last moment to add another season, consisting of 10 episodes. Saban had to change the animation studio during the fifth season because AKOM was no longer available, which explains the drastic changes in the character designs.
In Germany, the series was shown for the first time on RTL , the first 26 episodes were dubbed and a completely new opening credits produced. The hoped-for success did not materialize and RTL did not continue the series. It was only when the series was repeated on pay TV on Fox Kids from 2001 that the decision was also made to synchronize the third and fourth season, with the exception of the episode "Longshot". The fifth season was not dubbed.
