Neoharriotta is a genus consisting of three species from the family of the long-nosed chimera (Rhinochimaeridae) in the order of the sea cats (Chimaeriformes). The fish are found in the Caribbean , on the west coast of Africa and in the Arabian Sea, and on the coast of Somalia and Socotra .

features

Neoharriotta species reach body lengths of 73 to 130 cm. They are uniformly gray, light or dark brown in color or marbled gray-brown. The head is generally darker than the trunk, and the muzzle and paired fins are lighter on the underside. The body is elongated, tapers more and more towards the tail and the tail ends in a thin, thread-like filament. The head is relatively large, the muzzle is very long and ends in a small point. The eyes are relatively large and oval. The nostrils are longer than they are wide and the mouth is relatively small. The tooth plates are thick, heavily mineralized and provided with transverse ridges. The lateral line organs on the sides of the body are straight, not wavy. On the head they can run close together or stand far apart. The pectoral fins are short and wide, the pelvic fins are wide and rounded. The first dorsal fin has a short base. In front of her lies a sawn spine that is slightly higher or as high as the first dorsal fin. It is usually straight, but can also be slightly curved. The second dorsal fin is long and its upper edge is convex. Its front section can be as high as the first dorsal fin. An anal fin is present and separated from the ventral caudal fin border by a notch. The tail of the fish consists of an upper and a lower caudal fin and a long, thread-like filament at the end. The lower caudal fin is usually higher than the upper one.

Neoharriotta species are oviparous. Since they live in greater depths, little is known about their behavior and their way of life.
