Neoheterandria is a genus of viviparous toothcarps (Poeciliinae). The fish are found in Central America, in rivers and streams on the Atlantic (or Caribbean ) side of Nicaragua , Costa Rica , Panama (also the Pacific side) and Colombia .

features

Neoheterandria species reach lengths between 1.5 cm and 5 cm (males) and between 2 cm and 6.5 cm (females). They are small, elongated fish with a brownish color, often with dark transverse bands in the back of the body. There are no macroscopic features with which the genus can be diagnosed .

Way of life

Neoheterandria species live both in herbaceous calmly flowing waters of the lowlands and in mountain streams. They feed on invertebrates and vegetable foods.
