Neolamprologus cylindricus is a cichlid from the East African Lake Tanganyika . It is also known in the trade as "Lamprologus Adriani" or "Lamprologus cylindricus" .

distribution and habitat

N. cylindricus occurs in the southeastern part of Lake Tanganyika and lives exclusively in the littoral rock , mostly at depths of 2 to 10 meters. They rarely move more than a few centimeters from the ground.

features

The maximum total length of N. cylindricus is 10.4 cm. Sex differences are not very pronounced, the males are slightly larger than the females and have stronger fins. There is a color variant in which the males have a yellow color on the snout. The width of the light and dark stripes varies greatly, there are also local color variants with very thin light stripes.

behavior

The food consists of invertebrates that are collected from the surface of the ground and small fry. They are very territorial fish and defend their territory very aggressively, especially when they have young.

Multiplication

N. cylindricus are cave breeders that live together in pairs. Both partners defend the territory, but brood care is mainly carried out by the female. The eggs are laid in a cave or crevice.

Keeping in the aquarium

A species aquarium for a single couple should have an edge length of at least 60 cm. Since N. cylindricus is a cave breeder, there should be sufficient hiding places in the form of caves or crevices. Plants are not damaged; in a sufficiently large aquarium they can be kept with other Tanganyika perches.
