Neolamprologus gracilis ( synonym : Lamprologus gracilis ) is a species of cichlid endemic to Cape Kapampa in the East African Lake Tanganyika .

Neolamprologus gracilis becomes a maximum of 9 cm long and is therefore a relatively large species from the Neolamprologus pulcher species group. The body height is only 25 to 28% of the standard length , the head length is 31–33% of the standard length. Neolamprologus gracilis is beige in color with a lighter underside and numerous white spots on the sides of the body and the unpaired fins. The latter are drawn out long at the tips. Cuticle sheaths on both sides of the dorsal and anal fin are clearly developed and high. There is a dark spot on the gill cover. Compared to other species from the Neolamprologus pulcher species group, Neolamprologus gracilis has numerous gill rakes (16-18). In a transverse row (transversal row) below the upper sideline, 11.5 to 13.5 scales are counted.

Way of life

Neolamprologus gracilis lives alone or in small groups on rocky coasts. In its area of ​​distribution it occurs sympatric with the closely related species Neolamprologus pulcher .
