Centroliner Evolution (also known as Centroliner E ) is a low-floor line of public service buses from Neoplan , which was manufactured from 2003 to 2008 and replaced the conventional Centroliner .

In the course of the takeover of Neoplan by MAN in 2001, the development of independent city buses in standard sizes ended at Neoplan. Instead, the Centroliner Evolution based on MAN chassis was created . The chassis, drive unit and most of the body parts are identical to the MAN Lion's City series. The modular structure made it possible to achieve savings in production costs.

With the N 4522, the first vehicle of the new model series was presented in September 2002. Series production began in 2003, with most of the vehicles being built in the Polish MAN plants in Starachowice and Sady and then completed in the Neoplan plant in Pilsting .

The first major customer of the Centroliner Evolution was the Zurich public transport company , which accepted a total of 40 standard buses (N 4516) and 47 articulated buses (N 4522) from 2003. Also Connex / Veolia has around 50 vehicles for a number of subsidiaries (u. A. Alpina , OVR and HVG procured).

In 2007, the Roads and Transport Authority of the Arab Emirates Dubai ordered around 400 city buses of the Neoplan brand, including 170 double-deckers. The reasons for the choice included the good reputation of Neoplan in the country and the "uniquely attractive design" of the vehicles. The result was the Centroliner DD double-decker, based on the Lion's City DD from MAN, specially tailored to Dubai's needs . The Centroliner DD is half a meter higher than its sister model known from Berlin, which benefits the headroom on the upper deck. The order also comprised 150 articulated buses N 4522, 75 standard buses N 4516 and six copies of the midibus N 4509 with Göppel body, also developed for Dubai .

After the realignment of the Neoplan product range, which should only include coaches, the Centroliner series was taken out of the range in spring 2008.

In addition to MAN diesel engines, natural gas engines were also available. In these versions, the model name is followed by a CNG , e.g. B. as N 4516 CNG .
