The Neptun 381 cargo ship series , also known as the Hamburger Wall series, is a very variable type of general cargo from the Rostock shipyard “Neptun”.

history

The series was manufactured in seven units for German shipping companies from 1970 to 1973. The ships, which can be designed as either full-deck or free-deck, are primarily intended for the combined transport of general cargo, containers, heavy cargo, wood, bulk cargo, but also fruit and sweet oil . The construction later formed the basis for the technically largely identical type Neptun 371 .

The first ship and namesake of the series was the Hamburger Wall with the construction number 381 , which was handed over on June 30, 1970. The Hamburger Wall , located in Lübeck , has been renamed several times, most recently in Salt in 1986 and demolished in Gadani Beach on March 19 of the same year . The seventh and last ship in the series was hull number 387, launched in December 1972 as Muggenburg , which was canceled after only a good twelve years of operation and several renaming as of December 15, 1985 as Neptune in Yingkou , China . The fate of the individual ships is interesting: two ships of the series were lost in marine casualties, two had a service life of over 30 years, but three ships were sold for demolition exceptionally early.

The ships were propelled by a 6620 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type K9Z 60/105 E from the manufacturer VEB Maschinenbau Halberstadt, manufactured under MAN license, which acts directly on a fixed propeller. The largely automated machine system is set up for 16-hour watch-free operation.

The hulls, which have a bulbous bow and a very sharp-cut stem, are assembled in a sectional construction. The living and working area of ​​the aft deck superstructure, equipped with individual chambers, is air-conditioned.

The three holds with a volume of 16,383 m 3 grain space and 14,980 m 3 bale space have an intermediate deck , the holds are closed with MacGregor hatch covers. In addition, 163 m 3 of refrigerated cargo and 371 m 3 of sweet oil as well as 308 containers or 3304 standard wood can be transported. The loading gear according to the "Velle" system consists of three 8/16 ton swing booms and three 50 ton heavy lift booms .
